I realize many police and fire depts operate on frequencies the 125AT isn't capable of, but are you able to pick up any police/fire traffic, weather alerts with it??

Yes it is! I still have mine that I got a few years ago now. Usually runs about $100-150 on Amazon, but it's worth every penny.
