AzAP General Information / Farewell to Flickr
November 12, 2018, 01:16:58 PM
To All

I don't know if anyone cares, but just in case you might, I just deleted my FLICKR account which resulted in all my photos being deleted.  There were just too many undesirables posting objectionable material for my liking (folks posting a FAV/comment and when you check to see who they might be, all you see is material I don't want to be associated with).  I will keep in touch with the AZAP folks but will cease Flickr style social media posting.  Thanks to all the AZAP members who have visited my Flickr pages and FAV'd and/or commented on my photos.

All the Best

Museums / National Museum of the Marine Corps
June 06, 2015, 01:38:18 PM
I'm currently working with one of the graduating Marine Corps Officer Commissioning Classes of Calendar Year 1977 (TBS 1-77) in preparation for their first class reunion.  The National Museum of the Marine Corps will be hosting one of the reunion events, so I had the opportunity to visit the museum and capture a number of images that will be displayed during the various events.  I've posted a number of them on my Flickr page and I've also uploaded them into a Flickr Album.  I'm attaching a link to that album just in case you are interested in viewing some of the amazing exhibits.  These images are just a small sample of the many artifacts and displays contained in this museum, so I'd encourage any and all who visit the DC - Northern Virginia area to take a side trip to Quantico, Virginia to visit the facility.  It will be one of the highlights of your visit.  Here's the link:

She's probably already there.  A friend in Texas told me she was on her way to Phoenix, but didn't know what field she was flying to.  Just a heads up.

News / Growler Power: EA-18G boasts F-22 Kill
December 17, 2013, 10:27:47 AM
Thought you all might find this article of interest.

Growler Power: EA-18G boasts F-22 kill (PHOTOS)By Stephen Trimble on 25 February, 2009 in Uncategorised Today was Electronic Awareness Warfare Appreciation Day at Andrews AFB.

The base hosted a sort of petting zoo for high-tech jamming systems. I noticed a Boeing EA-18G parked on the side, and struck up a conversation with the pilot. As we chatted about interference cancellation systems, I couldn't help but notice an odd decal decorating the side of the fuselage. I asked the pilot: What's that aircraft decal on the fuselage?"That's an F-22," he said. Well, why is it there?"Because this is the EA-18G that killed an F-22," he explained.Um, really?Alas, after that bombshell, the conversation quickly dried up. I did learn the EA-18G kill was courtesy of a well-timed AIM-120 AMRAAM shot. And I learned the simulated combat exercise took place at Nellis AFB. How the EA-18G escort jammer got the shot, and whether its jamming system played a role in the incident were not questions the pilot was prepared to answer. For the spotters, the aircraft pictured above is EA-1, the first of two Lot 27 F/A-18Fs converted into flying prototypes for the EA-18G program. - See more at:

Stunt plane crashes after control stick breaks (Sean D. Tucker)

COUSHATTA, La. The pilot of an aerobatics plane had to parachute to safety in Red River Parish this morning after the plane developed mechanical problems. Authorities say Sean Tucker had to ditch the plane after the aircraft's control stick broke.

Deputies say Tucker landed safely -- despite getting tangled briefly on part of the plane after getting out of the cockpit.

The single-engine stunt plane crashed in a field near the Red River-Natchitoches Parish line. Red River Parish Sheriff Johnny Ray Norman says Tucker was in town to visit friends while on his way to a weekend air show in Florida.

The plane's control stick broke shortly after takeoff from Red River Regional Airport, Norman said, but Tucker managed to get the plane away from any houses before bailing out.

Norman says Tucker initially got hung on a back part of the plane but managed to extricate himself and parachute to the ground.

The single-passenger, propeller plane crashed about a mile from the airport and was destroyed.

This note is from the daily AIAA News Letter.  Thought you all might be interested.

"Flightglobal Pro (6/7, Doyle) reports, "Embraer is exploring the possibility of utilising a common wing across the proposed three members of its re-engined 'G2' E-Jet family, as it leans towards a 2018 service-entry target to facilitate the use of an all-new powerplant." The article notes that currently there are four planes in the E-Jet line, but Embraer "is considering whether to drop the 70-78-seat E-170-sized model, leaving the re-engined family to cover the 78-122-seat range, potentially with the same wing design." Embraer commercial aviation president Paulo Cesar Silva said a decision on what engine will be utilized could come towards the end of 2012. However, "whichever engine is chosen, structural changes to the airframe will be required to accommodate a 'much larger' fan, says Cesar."

Arizona Flying

Go "full screen" and turn-up the volume! The photography is HD, the planes are gorgeous, and, most notably, it is shot as the B17 takes off from Falcon Field in Mesa, AZ and then flies over the Superstition Mountains.

To the East of Apache Junction, then to Roosevelt & Canyon lakes, on the east edge of the Phoenix valley. The backdrops are stunning. Music is from the mini series John Adams.
