Taken during Red Flag 09-3. The Thunderbirds were recovering after their morning practice. I was shooting from the Speedway and was tracking this aircraft through my viewfinder when he crossed the sun. I was at around 400-415mm. Not fun, and it took a while for my vision in that eye to return to normal. Not something I care to repeat, but the resulting image turned out looking pretty cool:
OUCH!! Nice looking shot.
T-Birds over Willie. Dark sky is a building thunder storm to the North.
Not the greatest image quality, and definitely more of a case of luck than skill, but it's still my favorite T-Bird shot that I've taken.
The Thunderbirds take off at Thunder in the desert. The haze is from the strong wind and blowing dust and is why I made this black and white.

Joe and I made a detour on the way back from Tucson this afternoon and stopped by the American Legion Post #109. This is an authentic Thunderbird alumni, having flown with them back when they used the F-4. Anyway, bit of a tough shoot, owing to a white iron fence right in front of the plane.
Dave
Killer detail shot Dave. Didn't even think about shots like that.
Nice. I should stop by since it's right up the road from me.
Joe & James,
Thanks, wasn't sure how that b&w would end up. That second shot was a result of Joe's comment about switching to work on his Jay Beckman style shot. I thought, "That's a great idea."

I would like to know that too, Bill. I sent an email to the Thunderbirds asking about them. I'll let you know if they respond.
I read somewhere that the last three digits of the serial are painted on the side of the ejection seat, but that's kind of hard to see. ???
Eh? http://www.f-16.net/aircraft-database/view_airframes_bysearch/key/ADS/actype/F-16/startnum/37
Unless there have been any airframe changes between the 2010 and 2011 seasons, this should be current.
This is what they were reported to have been at the November, 2010 show at Nellis, but from what I have been reading, they have several spare airframes and they do sometimes bring different ones to a show.

You're waaaaaaaay too kind Harvey. I am terrible at catching the T-Birds or BA's up close and personal during their performance the way you, Bill, Jay and most everyone else on AzAP can. I finally gave up Friday and racked my zoom back and took the wide view ;)

I recently gave a presentation on airshow photography to a camera club on the west side ahead of the Luke show and went through a bunch of old folders looking for shots for my presentation. It's amazing how little I post from airshows, especially given how much I shoot.
I wish I could say I planned it to look this way, butt I didn't. Total digital dark room surprise. I've also kept myself from editing and posting this image because it is not quite sharp at 1:1. I caved. You're welcome.
