Caught this guy at Oshkosh.
Killer shot Dave. Love the scheme on that one.

Beautiful quality of light. Did you gents get Bearcat and Ponies as expected?
Yup. Plus three T-6s and the Spit.
Joe - great photo. You definitely chose a better location than Paul and I.
I haven't posted the story about the terribly unpleasant experience I had from this spot with an off-duty Boeing security officer yet. Imagine a sloppy-looking guy in civilian street clothes walking up and telling you you couldn't take photos on public property. At least you and Paul dodged that bullet (somewhat literally - he had a loaded handgun on the passenger seat of his vehicle).
Short Final...

LSO/Paddles View. Nice shot Dave
Any Paddles that's sharing a centerline with an incoming aircraft had better be jumping for that safety net!
Standing on the LSO platform on a CVE and it feels like standing on the centerline as these guys land. The National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola has a CVE flight deck with island and an Corsair suspended as if landing and when you stand on the LSO platform it looks like the prop edge and wing are going to decapitate you. The old straight deck carriers we're that big and the CVEs were down right small.
Beautiful shot Dave. Been wondering how you did at the approach end. Looks like you did rather well.
Dave
Here's a link to a typical CVE with Avengers on-board. This is the CVE-122 Palau (My Dad was on CVE-91 Makassar Strait). You can see that three Avengers with folded wings takes up most of the flight deck width. With unfolded wings, there's only room for one and the LSO platform just to the right of the Avenger spotted on the Port Stern side of the flight deck shows how close they actually were on these escort carriers.

Nice shot Vance, I like the angle and the lighting.
Thanks Harvey. It's an old image that I never processed because it was close to a similar image. This one as it turned out is a much better image. Thanks again. I hope to see you all again in September. Susie and I are coming back for my 50th College Football Team Reunion. We'll be in the area most of the month.

Very nice set Ned. I like every one of them. My father was on Aircraft Carriers during World War II and he told me that he would often get rides from one carrier to another on the Avenger to take part in sporting competitions between Navy ships. My dad was a boxer (Welterweight) and rose to become the Welterweight Champion of the Navy. He did a short stint as a professional after the war, but family responsibilities interrupted that career.
