Title: Crash at Falcon Field this afternoon
Post by: Dave S. on December 02, 2014, 06:32:39 PM
Just saw this on azcentral.com.  It looks like one of the Yak-52's crashed this afternoon.  In the video, it can be seen resting near the old, derelict DC-4(?) with the now retired CAF Tour Trailer in the foreground.  Very close to a fuel tank and the backside of the fire station.  According to the news, both occupants escaped without injury.

How did it not destroy everything around it?  I'm glad that both pilot and her passenger were not injured.

Glad they are OK!  Still puzzled as to how she got there, though.  Clearly she still had a head of steam when she hit the bollard, but it seems like she was coming from due north...???

Was it:  Left pattern for 22L, lost power after the touch, lowered the nose to get it back on the ground, then bounced and took the scenic route south?

I'm seeing rumblings of it being a case of trying to turn back to the airport after a power loss on the "Go"
