Will it really happen this year, or will there be another round of cancellations?
It'll go, barring another sequestration. I need to try to get in for the practice run....if they still do that on Friday.
As of now the air show is still on for March. There hasn't been rumbles about any money cuts that could nix it, planning goes on. As for Friday practice, I don't think the base will be open to the public. You'll need an ID or someone with one to get on base. The best case is to get close to the fence on the outside, there are some pretty good spots.
I'll be going my my spawn (read sons & grandsons). I anticipate it will be a terrific show and I am looking forward to it very much.

I have the ID to get on the base, but the on tarmac is a different issue. Years ago, when I was involved with the Westside Chiefs, we were extended an invite from the (major, I think) in charge of the Air Police to come and view the Friday exercises. Now, I am trying to work with one of the instructors (through my son) to see if it's possible. If not, there is always my backyard (right under base leg for runway 21). I was able to get some reasonable shots of the arrivals last time.
Wings of Blue has been added to the list of performers.

I'm wondering why Mike Goulian would be there just for static display.
Threads merged. ;D
Deer Valley Warbirds and Trojan Horsemen (T-28 group) have been added to the performers list.
A whole bunch of new statics have been listed. Looks like arrival days could be interesting.

Chris, it is true that your list is pretty complete, however more than half of these are waiting for either local or AF funding. Hopefully the majority will be funded, when it gets closer to show time we will receive a firm list and I'll be glad to share with everyone. A few days prior to the show we'll get a landing schedule and I'll share that also.

I wondered about that since I've heard that there won't be any military static aircraft at any of the shows this year, except those from the host bases. It was a surprise to see them listed. I guess whoever updates the website decided to be optimistic.
Anything you can provide in the run-up to the show will be much appreciated.
I've been chasing AC-130 arrivals at airshows since 2008, they never show. Now that it looks like I'm going to be in California during the Luke arrivals, the AC will probably show. You're all welcome. ;D
It looks like camera bags will not be allowed this time unless you have media credentials. Under permitted items is included:
- Cameras, video recorders and binoculars. Visitors will be required to show the items work. Items must be small enough to carry by hand.
* Note: Those working for media outlets (TV & Radio stations, newspapers, magazines, websites) should contact Public Affairs for media credentials which will allow for more equipment to be brought onto Luke AFB.
Under prohibited items:
- Back packs, ruck sacks
Camera bags are not specifically mentioned, but the item about items being hand-carryable seems to indicate they aren't allowed.
Would love to see that F-15E static turn into a demo! :P

We cannot bring our camera bags?
Correct. That was the deal at the last Luke show (where a photo vest came in very handy).
Just do like I did at last years Yuma show, have big pockets, cargo shorts can carry a couple lenses, memory cards, batteries, a sandwich
Three years ago, I took a small shoulder bag with one camera and two lenses. They let me on the bus. This year, I have the Think Tank belt and a couple of pouches. If they say no, plan B is to carry in hand and then store in cargo pants.
But a women's purse the size of a steamer trunk overflowing with crap is perfectly acceptable. It is what it is but I've never heard a rational explanation let alone an explanation for why camera bags aren't allowed to these events. Honestly I don't care but would be curious to know what the issue is with camera bags at air shows.....
No offense to the women out there :) :)
Go buy a radio flyer wagon or a stroller! They're on the approved list!
I use a pretty small camera bag / "backpack" and have had the police tell me that's not going on base and then when I go through security they let it pass. Not saying it will work this time but so far its worked at a lot of bases Nellis included.
Any word on if they are running buses as shuttles as they did several years ago, or are we parking near the base and standing in line?
According to the website, both are available. Shuttle parking SE corner of Peoria/Litchfield, walk-in parking SE corner of Glendale/Litchfield. $10 each location. Below the maps, I now see this as allowable: Cameras w/bags (my italics)
Thanks Keith!
So what actually showed up from that static list? Anyone going out tomorrow?

Joe, I'm pretty sure everything on the list showed up. I did not take a line by line inventory but, glancing at the list, it seems to be all there.
I cannot stress this enough...as you probably already know...leave early.
At 2pm traffic was still backed up for miles with people trying to get in.

I'll be there!
Anybody know what order the performers went in? Like, if I were really only interested in the F-86s and the Heritage Flight, about what point in the day did that happen today?
The performers did not follow the published schedule. The F-35, Heritage Flight, and F-86 stuff happened between 1130 and 1300 when the position of the sun still allowed some decent shots.
I am heading over today....
don't forget the patches. Going to try to get there around @ 9 or 10...give me a buzz.

^^^^ Love the Embry bird Rob. Saw it up close - a terrific looking platform.
I have a weird obsession with the CAP 232 (Eagle 580 in Matt Chapman's world)
Started with building a 28% RC model which was my first large plane. Flew it for almost 10 years and truly mastered it. Sold it for a helicopter and the guy crashed it a week later.
While building I did a ton of research on the "full scale" planes and found out there are only 14 airframes...in the world. The factory burned to the ground along with all the plans and tooling. So it's a truly rare bird.
I am currently building two of the same 28% planes...one for my oldest son and one for me.

Very nice shot of the F-86s Steve, neat aircraft to watch fly, it was great that there were two for formation flying.
Thank you Harvey. Overall, I thought it was a great show. I loved the F-86's and the Heritage stuff. The P-38/F-35 combo is not something you are going to see to often.

Same class of airfoils used on many sailplanes. Always thought the shape was cool.
Quick questions for anyone who was at the Luke show:
1. There were two or three MiGs on static display - anyone know which manufacturers/variants they were? (MiG/Lim, 15/15UTi/17, etc).
2. The only F-15 on display was an F-15E from Mountain Home, correct?
3. The NASA F-18 on display was a B, correct?
4. There was a KC-10 on the ramp that showed up, right?
5. Was there an AWACS or JSTARs this year? I don't remember any.
I think that's it. Trying to fill in some gaps on a project and most of my static shots were lost in my hard drive crash over the summer. Thanks for any info!
Joe, The F-15E was from Mountain Home, there was a KC-10 on the ramp. There were no AWACS or JSTARS this year. I don't know the NASA F18 model or the Migs, hope this helps some.
Joe,
I just took a look at my Monday departure shots, and I attached the three that I can contribute with. One of the MiGs was a 15 (based on the wing planform), but not sure which variant.
@ Joe, Only one Mig on static display an ex polish jet PZL-Mielec SBLim-2 MiG-15UTI -c/n 522546 N15UT the other aircraft in russian marks was an L-29 Delfin.
Excellent guys, thank you so much!
