James, both very nice catches.  Definitely would be cool to see the Flying Wing in the air.  Envious indeed. Nice shots.

The 'ghostly'  F-15E put on an outstanding show both Saturday and Sunday at Chino.
Speed, excellent airmanship, and lots of NOISE!

N46463   YAK-3U/R-200   Owned by:  William E. Whiteside of Windsor, California
The airplane is relatively small making it appear to be flying faster than it is.
Flying at Chino on the "circuit" it looked like a pylon racer, each pass a carbon
copy of the previous. Enjoyable to watch.

Northrop N-9MB Flying Wing sharing a Planes of Fame hanger with Lockheed P-38 #162, NX 138AM "Skidoo"

This is the 4th of 4 test aircraft from the original Northrop Flying Wing bomber program in the early 1940's.
It is built of wood, laminated wood, and the cockpit of tubular steel. Engines are Franklins rated at 260hp each.
The aircraft is 1/3 scale and measures 17' 10" long and has a 60' wingspan.

Three of the 4 test aircraft were scrapped when the Flying Wing program was cancelled. This aircraft sat and
deteriorated for 30 years. It was then purchased by the Planes of Fame in 1982 and underwent a 20 year restoration.
It now regularly flies at west coast airshows.

It flew on Sunday only. The Saturday the flight was scrubbed due to the canopy blowing off while taxiing.
Note the tailwheel behind the cockpit to preclude over rotation.

There is another flying wing under wraps up at the PoF Annex at Valle.  At least there was last summer.

Can't confirm its authenticity and it certainly wasn't going to fly anytime soon.

When looking at the airplane when it was in the hanger it seems to me that it could be
replicated pretty easily. The materials are nothing out of the ordinary, and they had the airplane
for 20 years, and they are excellent fabricators.

The flying wing at Valle is a Horton IV, a German glider dating to 1941.
