Those are some nice looking T-28s!
I think I'll be going to Casa Grande for next year's fly-in.
I used to really like the T-6...I still do...But I think I'm developing a little bit of a crush on the T-28. :-[ Great Shots! I'm up for Casa Grande next year too!

Copperstate fly-in 2009
When I was out on Summer Tour with the B-17 my PIC kept talking about a T-28 that he flew back home. Well, here it is! Seen here at Coolidge Municipal Airport (P08) after a belly landing. You can see damage to the prop, flaps, and nose gear door. My friend, RZ "Taz" Blue, was in the backseat at the time. Both pilots are ok.
This is the same T-28 seen in Dave Loera's photo from Copperstate 2009.

Why are the T-6 and T-28 in the same thread? About the only things they have in common are that they both have radial engines and were built by the same company.
Two things that I can think of. !. They're both North American built/designed aircraft. 2. They were both used as primary basic trainers by the military during their service.

Kaspar started the thread to include both aircraft and there were a lot of replies in a short amount of time and we were brand new at this forum stuff and didn't know how to separate things into different threads and didn't want to irritate members with requests to delete and repost stuff when the group was brand new with what might appear to be heavy-handed moderator stuff that seems to be one of the number one contributors to people leaving internet forums. Not the ideal solution, but honestly pretty low on my list of pet peeves with the forum.

Clean T-28C at Gateway 3/6/2010.
Normally when the warbirds return to DVT, they use a "Whiskey 1" arrival. That is a Navy carrier style approach when they fly over the runway and do a break to a downwind leg for landing. The tower controller will normally tell them to approach at 3000 feet (1500 agl) and will tell them to "break over the numbers" or "break over mid-field" in order to fit them into the traffic flow. When this guy arrived, there was no traffic whatsoever and the controller said "altitude and break at pilot's discretion," so he came in at about 200 feet agl and didn't do his break until the far end of the runway.

By strange coincidence I just today saw an NTSB probable cause report on that AT-6, N76BZ, for a landing accident at Falcon two years ago. There was a reference to it on one of the RSS feeds that I follow. The report actually came out a long time ago.

I'm not sure about excessive focal length; however, what I really want to know is how you got the wing tip and fuselage in sharp focus while shooting a slow shutter speed on your 500 and panning??? You make a guy with shaky hands very jealous ;D
Essentially, everything on a line from the position light, to Popeye to the Pilot are all on the same relative plane and all moving at more or less the same speed.
Perpendicular like this is the one place you won't see much parallax error.
Same day, same flight of T-6s / SNJs going out at AirVenture but this one was on the far side of the runway while the one above was on the near side.
Notice that the Oshkosh trucks in the background are just a little bit more pronounced here than above. Less subject to background distance. Not much, but enough to affect the DOF.

Well, it is nice to have the option of cropping later if you choose. I like this shot as is. The colors on that Texan are great, especially in the soft light. I think a lot of photographers get caught up in the belief that clear skies provide the only acceptable light but many of my favorite shots have been taken under cloudy conditions. It's like a giant soft box.
Not surprisingly there's an app to calculate depth of field. It's pretty well done. I don't use it often but it has come in handy when I've known that I would need to shoot at the largest aperture (smallest number) possible and still have the subject in focus. Sometimes you don't get a second chance! It's called DOFMaster.
"Popeye" was shot at f/6.7 and was actually a little dark so I was pretty hard up against wide open on that day!
The yellow bird was at f/8 and probably should have been f/6.7
