BULLDOG OFF TO THE FIGHT.

First of all, thanks to Rene for the Heads up on the Bulldogs departure this morning. Based upon previous deployments I expected them to go about 0730 with the sunrise at 0712. I went early to be sure I didn't miss anything. I stopped briefly at the gas station at the corner of Kolb and Valencia to wait for the first hint  of light and to minimize my exposure to base security personnel. I soon heard some unknown whistling sounds which I finally realized were A-10s departing in the total darkness. It was 38 minutes prior to sunrise when the last A-10 went past me. I had cranked my ISO up to 12,800 and was panning with the noise in near total darkness. If you stare at this image long enough you convince yourself that it is indeed an A-10. I then drove down to Wilmot and crossed my fingers hoping for second pulse. Walt Thomas showed up about that time and we were rewarded with a small group of aircraft deploying at sunrise. I'll post those images later.

Here is one of the Bulldogs A-10s from the second cell. The sun had not yet risen above the Rincon mountains.

Following the second group of Bulldog A-10s, a KC-10 tanker departed D-M to support the A-10s. The sun had just peaked over the Rincon mountains and the light was spectacular. KC-10 (s/n 85-0031) from McGuire AFB. 2/9/15.
