I'll jump in here and post a shot of our local Mustang from the Vegas area. Bill Allmon owns and flies this wonderfully restored NACA P-51 Mustang. Some one at the show told me he owns and operates many Taco Bell restaurants here in the Vegas Valley. He must sell a hella lot of Tacos to own a Mustang!!

Very cool - a NACA P-51.

Left wing, first image; I'm assuming those are airfoil test sections?  Did you get any info on the history of the plane & its testing at NACA/NASA?

Sorry Dave..but by the time I got around to this plane it was almost time for the show to break up. The pilot/owner apologized but he was not in a talkative mood having answered question from "idiots" all day. I understood.

Yes..those white add-ons were the section where test instruments measured airspeed and such. In a dive the plane would stay sub-sonic but air over those sections would go super sonic. That is what I was told. The A/C was also fitted with an extra six inches to make the tail taller and more stable.

This A/C was rescued from atop a pole. More pics here..

Awesome.  I am so glad he didn't follow the well-worn path of those who paint their P-51s up as ace-mounts, especially given the unique history of this airframe.

Jay: That is a beautiful image. I saw her at the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends back in Ohio.
